OnePlus has decided to merge OxygenOS With Oppo’s ColorOS
OnePlus users will not be able to see the significant changes out of the new announcement.
- OxygenOS will be available on OnePlus phones as before.

OnePlus has announced to merge OxygenOS with Oppo’s ColorOS,which will improve efficiency and standardise the software experience, across the device. It is the formal merger with Oppo on the operational front. This new change will come in just couple of weeks after the announcement. Both, OnePlus and Oppo are owned by Guangdong-based conglomerate BBK Electronics. The companies has decided to make their collaboration after integrated their research and development (R&D) resources.
OnePlus has announced the merger of OxygenOS with ColorOS, through a forum post. It have also highlighted the changes which will come at the codebase level. The users will not notice the changes at least for some times.
The company said that Globally,OxygenOS will remains the OS and OnePlus users will now built on a more stable and stronger platform,as always. OnePlus has also announced that the new update will apply to it’s new devices soon,but for existing devices that will be within the maintenance schedule,the codebase-level integration between OxygenOS and ColorOS will arrive through an over-the-air (OTA) update along with Android 12.
This change is to help OnePlus bring stable and timely software updates, the company really needs to focus on – it will take time to update older hardware.
It has also introduced its improved software maintenance schedule under which it will provide 3 major Android updates and four years of security updates to phones with T and R models and also OnePlus 8 and new phones. The company has decided to deliver 2 major Android updates and three years of security updates for the original OnePlus Nord and newer Nord models as well as OnePlus Nord CE 5G.
The maintenance schedule will be inbuilt from OnePlus Nord N10 and OnePlus Nord N100 and will continue to the new OnePlus Nord N phones.
The improved maintenance schedule will not be applicable to the devices which were released prior to the OnePlus 8 series,they will have to continue with the same timeline that included two major Android updates and three years of security updates.
This year, OnePlus replaced its native HydrogenOS with Oppo’s ColorOS for all it’s models. But the time and venue is still not confirmed for the merging of OxygenOS with ColorOS. Till the merging, they have to continue to stay different.
